Alice's Attire for the Evening
Masquerade, paper faces on parade...
It was a rather tiring process, preparing for a social event. Well, at least it was for a certain sixth year Hufflepuff named Alice Logan. The conscientious blonde wanted everything to look and to be perfect, from the way that she looked to the way in which she conducted herself. Too often had parties such as the one she would be attending this evening made Alice feel uncomfortable; some of the other girls felt that the only way to impress guys was to bare an extensive amount of skin. Alice really never did understand their mindset and she still didn't - they said they were 'leaving it up to the guys' imagination'. Well, their outfits most certainly didn't. However, this was why Alice appreciated the idea of a masquerade ball. Instead of trying to flaunt their bodies to any attractive male of high social status, the female students alike could match intellect or simply converse with someone. No one knew who was behind the mask...
Examining her freshly curled hair, Alice made sure that her appearance was natural yet beautiful; she felt that too much makeup was gawdy and couldn't stand the feeling of having all of the products on her face. Yet she felt naked without at least a little bit of foundation on. Thus, with a gentle peach foundation and minimal rosy blush, Alice looked radiant. The curves of her eyes were accented slightly by the craftwork of a fine-tipped gold eyeliner pen, complemented by the strokes of mascara on her delicate lashes. A light dusting of gold glitter lay on her skin, the light refracting brilliantly off of each particle. Truthfully, Alice was pleased with how she looked. With a sigh, she took one last glance in the mirror and nodded contently; the hot pink silk dress hung lightly on her petite frame, hugging her in all the right places. The gold accents enhanced her attire enough to make a statement, yet they were subdued enough that they weren't tacky.
Placing her mask over her eyes, Alice headed out of the Hufflepuff Common Room, climbing out of the portrait hole carefully. She could hear the click of her heels as she walked down the corridors, along with the pounding of her heartbeat. Merlin, why was she so nervous? It wasn't as if she had anything to be afraid of. Well, aside from her usual fear of completely embarassing herself in front of everyone. Yet she couldn't let that stop her now; she was determined to have a good time. Stepping through the doors, Alice entered the start of term masquerade ball, letting her eyes roam freely for someone to talk to.

He took a step forward. James Potter was aware of how unorthodox he appeared before the ball. Men were dressed in various yet more appealing costumes that elaborately displayed their manliness, a whole hall of black suites. He took yet another step, his head slowly turning to take in the full scene of the dance. Yet his steps were more nimble, graceful than usual his mind ridden with observation, thoughts and extreme detail. He wasn’t handsome and had absolutely no qualities any girl could possibly adore. He wasn’t a rogue. He wasn’t dark and mysterious. He was just James Potter. And he was all ,too aware that a simple mask could never hide that from anyone, especially not himself. He wanted to be a black hero, zero, a prince neatly tucked into a suite able to display a fake facade. It wasn’t going to happen. He was as buck, just a simple buck. His costume, perfect. Though the feeling of looking like a pansy did haunt his doubt. He nearly laughed aloud at the thought. Pansy. What a word.
That’s precisely when he saw her. Red hair, blazing in a rather appetizing red dress. Who else could it be? He knew her all too well, Lily Evans. A ridiculous mask couldn’t hide her away from him. ‘She must feel awfully smug behind that little trinket, thinking she can hide from the idiotic and brainless me’, James thought with a grin. Little did she know, how little did she know. The young Lily was by the bar it seems with some vampire git, and angel currently being escorted to what he perceived a dance. His heart pounded, his nerves were tightened. He approached the bar stand. Silently, his shoes clacked on the hard floor, so delicate it was soundless in contrast to the chatter about the room. He wanted to ask her, how he wanted to ask her. Lily will you dance with me? Madamoiselle may you do me the honor? No. Not so fast. He took another step and sat down at the bar. Tonight James was not a predator. Tonight, James Potter was a buck.

(ooc;; Alice, I LOVE your outfit!! Gah! -dies of envy-)
Lily laughed. Yes, she and Vonna would probably end up spinning each other around. That was the nice thing about being girls; people didn't question you if you danced together or held hands or something. It was just friendly, but when guys did it, they were considered... well, you get the picture. Now that more people were arriving, Lily's excitement was mounting. "I never noticed how many handsome guys we have in our school," she mused to Vonna. "But then, I suppose that everybody looks beautiful under a mask." For a moment, she considered that thought. What if she got asked by some gorgeous-looking guy to dance, had a great night, and then at midnight, when the masks came off, discovered he was some ugly troll? Right after that thought entered her mind, she felt ashamed. If she really ended up liking somebody, why did it matter what they looked like? Lily sighed. She was thinking too much, as usual. Who said she actually had to fancy somebody tonight? She could just have fun.
Miss Evans was not at all surprised when a handsome young man dressed as a vampire approached and asked Vonna to dance. She did nothing to hide the smirk on her face, since she was sure Vonna was just about to say that she probably wasn't going to be asked anytime soon. After winking at her best friend, Lily looked the vampire up and down. He definitely was not bad looking at all. The two of them would be having an interesting time, that was for sure. "Have fun," Lily said softly as they headed out to the dance floor. She smiled and took another long drink from the crystal glass in her hand, watching Vonna and the vampire start to dance. Vaguely, she got the impression that the two of them would make a very good couple. All of a sudden, Lily felt quite depressed. Her best friend had already been asked to dance, as had many other girls, and she was just sitting at the bar, left out.
Getting to her feet abruptly, Lily brushed a strand of fiery red hair out of her bright eyes and contemplated what she would do. She honestly felt like a total idiot, sitting at the bar alone. Making up her mind to go to the lavatory, she set her glass down on the counter. That was it, she could fix her make-up or something. Add a little sparkle to her eyelids with magic. Lily adjusted her mask to make sure it was in place as she exited the hall. In the lavatory, Lily quickly slid off her mask and took out her wand. She did a silent little charm that added a streak of glittering gold over her eyes. Then she did a similar charm on her lips, so that their already natural red color was enhanced with gold sparkles. She smiled, observing the effect. Okay, she had better get back out there. What was she doing, hiding in the bathroom?
Lily went and sat back down at the bar in the same spot she'd been sitting before. Her foot was beginning to tap impatiently, and she felt very restless. She bit her glimming bottom lip, and glanced around the hall at the couples dancing. At the moment, she made up her mind. If she didn't get asked to dance in a few moments, she would get out there and dance by herself. There was no way she was going to waste her night sitting at the bar.
. Lily Evans . ProudGryffindor . seventeen . too clever for her own good
Someday we'll know...

((Sorry Alexia, I didn't realise you'd replied. And I'm sorry for the short post again - I'm being invaded by them again.))
Severus squinted behind his mask. He didn't quite know why, but he half expected the girl to turn around, recognise him and then slap him around the face for even talking to her. But, to his great relief, the pretty girl merely smiled and agreed to drink with him. He beamed and the cool surge of 'everything-might-just-go-well' took over his being. He laughed at her joke and then proceeeded to the makeshift, non-alcoholic bar that had been built for students with a sudden thirst for pineapple juice. Other masked students had gathered at the bar as well - mainly in couples. Severus squirmed under the apparent pressure of having to be charming. After all - it was him that had approached her. But unluckily for him, he had little experience at the practice of 'coming-on' to girls that he met. He gripped his mask handle harder as thought it threatened to shoot out of his palm. "Can I get you anything?" he asked. There was a small barwitch who looked suspiciously like a hag that was leering at them from the other side of the counter. He suspected that if she answered - she wouldn't have much of a choice.
"I'm... Sev, by the way." There were plenty of people called 'Sev' weren't there? "I know we're not supposed to be so revealing but at least I haven't taken my mask off." He smiled, that was really all he could do. "Sorry, I didn't catch yours..."

What if she said no? Of course, James Potter was all too aware of this possibility. A replay of different rejection lines played in his head over and over again. He could just see it now, the heightened moment and Lily would say, ‘Oh uh, my feet are in too much pain,’ or ‘Sorry, I’m allergic to dance floors.’ Her little brow would furrow in that disapproving way, though she’d attempt to retain a most polite air. He sighed as he leaned over to request a drink, “Give me your best.” He called to the bar tender. That sounded cool, slick. A grin spread over his lips, or it could have possibly sounded stupid and idiotic. A sudden veil of self consciousness became him. James Potter gingerly sipped his drink.
Discreet. The important part was to be discreet. James turned his head ever so slightly to look over at the eager red-headed girl who just seated herself once more. He loosened his shoulders grinning, “Just can’t sit still?” James tried to straighten his back, look confident yet loosen his jaw for a cool and indifferent look. He then took a sip a few seconds after the question to add to the effect. He awaited her answer, her reaction eagerly. This one moment was the determining factor, the factor that laid between him having one of the best nights of his life, to having just another normal day.

Heaving an impatient sigh, Lily ordered another drink and took a few vicious gulps. Her eyes followed various couples on the dance floor, specifically Von and her partner. Who could it be? Somehow, he looked familiar, but she couldn't think of who it could be; he was well-disguised. It came to Lily that maybe she wasn't so well-disguised. Could somebody possibly recognize her? She shifted uncomfortably. Hopefully not. Someone caught her eye suddenly, someone sitting a few seats down at the bar. Glancing over, she saw that it was the guy who was dressed as a buck. Interesting. She definitely wouldn't have the nerve to come to a ball with antlers. It was actually kind of cute. She supressed a grin, and was rather surprised when he spoke to her.
He had a voice that sounded almost familiar, but... she couldn't place it. That was probably how it was going to be for most of the night. It was strange to think that she probably knew most of the people in here, yet she couldn't tell who was who. It was thrilling. "Mm... Yeah, I guess I'm just anxious to get on the dance floor," Lily said casually, looking away from him as she spoke and taking another sip of her drink. He didn't seem very interested or over-eager; in fact, he was playing it pretty cool. Well, two could play this game. Lily deliberately turned her head the other way and watched more of the dancers, but she watched him out of the corner of her eye, trying to figure out who it was. Honestly, she had no idea.

For a special Gryffindor this night was a exciting one, she had spent hours trying to be perfect. Megan's hair was curly, she was wearing light makeup and she had the most beautiful dress on. She stood in front of the mirror for a long time, until a girl told her it was time to go to the ball.
Megan quickly put on her mask, at the same moment she entered the ball, luckily she wasn't spotted. As she looked at the masked figures, they reminded her of a big group of rainbow colored birds. Megan had promised herself that no matter what happens she will be more outgoing and less like her solitary shy self. Well, it was not exactly working.
Megan slowly but gracefully walked to the bar, to ' lighten' her mood. As she sat there awaiting for something good to happen, someone spilled their drink on her. Megan didn't yell at the person, all she did was slowly raise from where she was sitting and looked at the person with angry eyes.
Then she left. She went to a bathroom to do herself off, but as she was using a towel to get the stain out she remembered a drying spell she learned. She dried herself off with the spell and looked at herself she fixed the ripples in her dress.
She quickly walked back into the ballroom and put a smile on her face, and she walked to what seemed like a lonely wall. She just stood there not really wanting to dance alone but, not wanting to ask anyone or wanting to leave. Then she heard a male voice to her right.

What the hell was that suppose to mean? James had no clue. Was that a hint to keep going or was that a form of subtle rejection? He nearly laughed at his confusion. Women. He would never get them. He grasped his cup and began to twirl his wrists watching the liquid within form a vague circle. Potter licked his lips. His hazel eyes slowly brushed over Lily Evans once again. What was he thinking? How could he possibly fool Lily into believing he was this ‘great guy’? A grin spread over his lips. She’d most likely dump him flat in a second if he’d ask, but hey it was worth a shot. For Lily anything was. He put a hand through his unruly hair. Remember just be aloof, he thought., “So why not do it?”
He stood up and let the cup clang slightly atop the bar top. In a gentleman like fashion he extended his hand in front of the red-headed girl. “There’s no one stopping you.” He laughed a little, ducking his head before he stared back into the girl’s brilliant eyes, “Especially not me.” His body tensed. This was the moment, the precise moment where countless times Lily would reject him flat out. No mercy. He nearly groaned at the thought, anticipating utter doom. Though through all this James managed to retain a cheerful and quite charismatic smile. Another adaptation he had picked up during the reign of Lily Evans.

The Start of Term Ball was now, the night where the women could dress lavishly and the men could begin to flirt, if you could put it that way. It wasn't the best of night's for most, but there was something special about it tonight. There were no couples, no groups and no gangs of people hanging around. It was all mysterious, as everyone dressed in their best dresses and suits, faces veiled by a mash, hiding the true appearance of whoever the person may be. Tonight, there were no Cunning Slytherin's, Wise Ravenclaw's, Brave Gryffindor's or Caring Hufflepuff's. It was just male and female, and new couples were bound to struck up. Of course, there were a few of the sulky types, hiding with in their Common Rooms, too afraid to come out and join the festivities, as they were well underway. Leon Evander Suon was still in his Common Room, still getting ready.
Normally a shy, silent young man, this was an opportunistic night for him, able to talk and socialize with his actual name not needed to be known. He walked down the Ravenclaw Staircase, adjoining the Male Dormitories, one of the only Ravenclaw's within the confines of the Tower. Butterflies tittered within him, as he eyed himself in the mirror. His black Suit was very simple, not too lavish or too ugly. A white button up shirt was underneath a smooth black jacket, button only once near his waist. A black tie hung from the collar, no pattern present against it. He gave a small nervous smile, approving of his appearance, while from his pocket he clutched a mask, traditionally from the Carnevale celebrations in Venice, Italy. He slipped it over his handsome face, the strap ending just around his neck. His hand slid against the right side, feeling the contrast between the white and gold lining around the eyes, while the other side was predominately gold with a red and blue triangle. Satisfied, he left the Common Room.
His footsteps echoed in the Corridors, now empty except for some of the latecomers, like himself. He felt his uncovered face, now regretting that he hadn't shaved just before the Term Ball. A small stubble of a beard growing against his cheeks and chin. It wasn't too long or spiky, but just enough to be seen. He shrugged the worry off, reminding himself no-one would no it was him. No-one. He hadn't shown his mask or suit to anyone, not even his friends. Most were under the impression that he was coming. He took towards the Hall, stopping before it and admiring decorations. Fairies provided a lot of light, dancing in mid-air and setting the scene for the Hogwarts Students. The band played where the Teacher's Table used to be, a popular band at that.
Streamers shot at random intervals into the air, the night sky visible from above, the bewitched ceiling showing a full moon, no clouds and stars clumped together, making a constellation of some sort. Leon's eyes wandered to the small, little bewitched sign, outlining some information. He let his eyes wander over it, and his heart did a backflip as he read the last line. "Masks off a midnight..." He said softly, horrified. Half of him went to turn back, but he couldn't. He'd already got dressed and ready. With a gulp, his feet tapped into the Start Of Term Masquerade Ball, eyes viewing everyone, anxiety being the only emotion he felt. He moved towards the drinks table, pouring a goblet of Pumpkin Juice, eyes surveying the other students. He ran a single hand through his gelled hair, slightly spiked, but didn't look different to how he usually wore it. He had made a single observation; at least he wasn't the worst dressed.

The vampire lead the angel by the hand gracefully towards the dance floor, his gait as flowing and elegant as ever. He was a natural to play the part of the charming villain clad in the clothes of a dashing noble. Even before they began dancing, people were taking attention to the seemingly polar-opposite pair crossing the floor. One seemed to be luminous, radiating a gentle and innocent brilliance. The other collected the shadows about himself, yet somehow commanded a strong presence that could not be overlooked.
Sirius placed one hand on the angel’s hip and kept her other one gently, but firmly in his hand, then lead her into a dance. It was still early in the night, and the music was neither fast nor slow, and let for much freedom in style. He danced with unfailing grace and a controlled energy that fit perfectly to his character: beautiful, yet deadly, stately, yet filled with hidden carnal desires.
He allowed his silver eyes to fully appreciate his dance partner once the dance had been established. Her long, chocolate colored hair shone with golden undertones in the candlelight of the room. A few freckles on her nose that he had missed before in the shading of the mask now became apparent at this close distance. Behind the creamy mask, two bright blue eyes gazed out at him. His smile widened as he watched them glitter like sapphires. If he put in the effort of his clever mind, he was certain he could ascertain who this angel truly was, but where was the fun in that? He’d much prefer to get caught up in the moment.

Vonna was surprised by just how gentle yet domineering this Vampire seemed to be. She actually let him lead her and his touch was intoxicating, her body was responding to every tremble, every breath that she could hear him draw – her senses were going into overdrive because she was surrounded by strangers and only one person she truly knew – Lily – and she’d been carefully and neatly moved away from the scarlet goddess. Vonna was no stranger to attention, but whereas normally she’d roll her eyes and pass a sarcastic retort, she kept quite, her mouth slightly open and her head held high in a dignified but not arrogant manner. Her radiance seemed to melt into his darkness in a sinister and mysterious passion, and although words had not been spoken yet, there was a silent chemistry that Vonna felt when with him. And as far as she knew, only three people made her feel that connection.
The Vampire’s delicate placement on her hip made her feel, protected but revered and independent. Her hand was rested lightly in his, but he kept a firm support on her hand as if she were to fall any second now. The music wasn’t what she usually danced to – Vonna was a bit of a Latin Ballroom freak – but it was enough for a comfortable acquaintance to be struck up. Cursing her choice of dress as it trailed the floor (most probably gathering dirt), she swung into position: the strong arms of the Vampire with her. Unconventionally, instead of placing her hand on his shoulder, she chose to curl it around the side of his neck, slightly overlapping on the nape, her other hand clasped tightly in his.
She could feel his eyes sweep across his face and could have blushed and looked away as she normally did, but held her stance and stared straight back into magnetic silvery orbs. They were framed by thick black eyelashes – almost feminine to an extent but nevertheless beautiful. His hair was soft and silky underneath her long fingers, and jet black, falling a little longer than his face but implying that to the side, he hid a strong jawbone. Stubborn mouth, she noted, licking her lips as she shifted her gaze back to his eyes, and away from his lips. There was something about that was so proud and distant tonight that she knew if she messed up, no-one would care. She just hoped that this creature of the night standing before was as good-looking as his features implied; it would be terribly disappointing if he wasn’t.
No words were necessary for the moment as she focused on his eyes, conversation would be such a mood killer for this invisible connection and the last thing Vonna wanted to was to be a killjoy. She couldn’t however, prevent her mind from rewinding and attempting to figure out who she was dancing with. It could very possibly be Severus – choosing to be a dark creature of the night, the hair, the lips… but the eyes really were not him. And the nose… well he could have shrunk his nose, she mused, he had been thinking of doing it.

Why how charming of you – and very traditional.
Kieran smiled charmingly. He was totally in his role. The Gryffindor lad, more or less known as the sweet and childish hyper sixteen year old mascot, had kept it together and was playing his romantic role very well. Or perhaps, this was a natural side to him. After all, Kieran was a rather lovey-dovey kind of guy. He enjoyed hugs and closeness much more than regular people preferred. Perhaps this romantic side of him, was one of those rare sides of him that came through only on days like these.
I'd love to.
Kieran smiled pleased. No matter how that lad smiled, it would always made a girl smile back, at least most girls. It wasn't that Kieran was that sexually attractive, but he was just so sweet, with or without a mask. If he could, Kieran would've bit his lip and twirled his tongue around one one of his studs, although, he chose not to. It was an distinguishing movement, made by few. For starters, there weren't exactly a whole lot of people with studs in their lip.
This is all very mysterious isn't it?
"Yeah, it is," Kieran said, agreeing. Although as mysterious as he found the whole evening, he still though he saw something familiar in one or two people. It wasn't anything on anyone that gave them away really, but it was just something about them that Kieran knew. He was a detail person, somewhat. When it came to appearance, Kieran was good at noticing things. Like, if someone had gotten a new haircut, Kieran was often one of the first to notice.
"And may I say you look absolutely stunning tonight," Kieran said with a warm smile as he offered the girl his arm. "Shall we?"

The vampire’s smile widened as her hand gently slid upon his neck. Two small dimples appeared low on his cheeks. The small change in expression created a startling difference. It was a tiny crack in the completely controlled emotion, and from it spilled his joy and excitement. The elongated canine fangs added to it further, and brought out all the clever mischief in his smile. Before, he could have easily passed as a graduate several years out of Hogwarts, but now all the playful youth flooded back into his face.
As if taking a cue from him, the music stepped up and increased its pace. He stepped back and then forward, deviating from the ordinary dance moves slightly, but not enough to potentially make his partner fall out of step. The vampire began leading her into a form of combined swing and ballroom. Experimenting, watching for reaction, giving his partner cues and asking whether or not they could move into a more elaborate and intricate dance.
((^^; sorry for the shortness... I can't remember the last time I've RPed a dance. XD but give me a battle scene any day...))

{Battle Scene? Violent child…}
The smile on her dance partner’s face did everything to bring it back to its boyish handsomeness and those dimples were so cute, Vonna could recall herself thinking unconsciously at one point. Vampires in the wizarding society were not regarded very highly at all, along the same lines of werewolves and giants. Vonna couldn’t see why… there was something positively magnetic about his long fangs. They were so sleek and shiny, Vonna’s eyes had been glued to his mouth for the last five minutes, not really concentrating on her feet which had automatically entered ‘waltz’ mode.
The change in pace in the music had to bring the angel back down to Earth with a bump. She found herself attempting to speed up her movements with her blood-sucking friend and internally cursed herself for wearing such a stupidly extravagant and impractical dress. How she longed to foxtrot but the most she could do was follow her partners lead, swinging herself out a couple times only to return back to his old after twirling in. he was a good dancer but many dancing shoes were available on the market and she could never differentiate actual talent from a pair of charmed toe-huggers.
They had been dancing for a while now and Vonna’s wings were beginning to feel heavier by the second. She longed for a drink to soothe her parched throat and gain some energy back. But she didn’t know this creature of the night and the last things she wanted was to come across as a weak female. She continued to hold herself with as much dignity as she could muster, her eyes locked onto his silvery orbs through her golden mask as her feet glided across the parquet floor of the Great Hall.
