“I know,” Sirius muttered back to James. “You’d think they’d do something different with the people who have been playing quidditch since second year.” His mood shifted from mild annoyance to merriment as he watched their good friend, Remus Lupin, striding towards the class. He stifled a laugh as he watched James’ parchment ball hit Remus squarely in the forehead. “Don’t do that,” Sirius elbowed James in the side. “You’re supposed to be setting a good example, Mr. Head Boy.” He loved teasing James about his authorative position. It had never ceased to amaze him that James had been chosen for Head Boy, especially considering someone like bookish, perfect-student Remus Lupin was in the running. It wasn't that James' heart wasn't in the right place too, but, honestly, it was James Potter.
Sirius took hold of Remus’ sleeve and tugged him over towards the two veteran quidditch players. He placed Remus at his side, so the silver-eyed boy was inbetween Remus and James. He leaned down and whispered to Remus, “What held you up?” Curiosity was used to hide the concern in his expression, but didn’t entirely succeed. Remus was never late, and despite how careless and indifferent Sirius seemed, he really did care, especially when it came to Remus. He trusted James to be able to handle himself better, where Remus was so soft-spoken and passive that sometimes his kindness was taken advantage of.
His gaze flickered up as Devona and Brett volunteered. A Ravenclaw and a Hufflepuff. Figures. He smirked and called to the Ravenclaw girl in a low tone too quiet for the teacher to hear, “Teacher’s pet~!” Sirius grinned over at her, watching for a reaction his words might cause; an annoyed glance, an arrogant toss of her hair, a demeaning, I’m-above-that-kind-of-thing look. She was chosen to provide the example for the class, and he was privately disappointed she wouldn’t be able to smack his shoulder in retaliation as she followed the professor’s instructions.

"You see Black the common misconception is...that would require actual skill for these blasted teachers." He whispered over to his friend with an aloof air. Boredum began to consume the Captain as he began to fold his lips and purse them into what his mother taught him to be 'fish lips'. He was actually quite skilled at the sport. He could barely stand the lecture, having participated in these classes for years. Though the Ravenclaws and Hufflepuffs were more insufferable than usual. Potter twidled his thumbs, then soon dug in his pockets desperately for any form of entertainment. Alas he had managed to find a quill and parchment tucked in his cloak. How did they get there anyhow? Thoughtfully James squinted and stared off into the distance. Class. That's right, he had borrowed some paper and a quill from Remus because he had forgotten to bring his materials.
Satisfied with the answer, Potter began to draw. Naturally it was of the flying teacher, Proffesor Valentine. Though, not what he'd label an accurate depiction. He made her a skeleton, rather cartoonish. Though he molded her into a dictator of brooms, marching up and down a row of flyers dying from the repetition and unrelenting boredum. It was brilliant in his mind. He grinned at the picture. He was definately saving this one.

{I'm loving the bitchiness guys, keep it up! And Adri (or anybody else) if you want to jinx Vonna's broom, go for it, it would be an interesting plot line LOL.}
It was slightly hypocritical but Alanah’s expression of sarcastic sweetness just made her raise her one of her shapely eyebrows. She found that Adrianne has clearly injected some negative attitude into her ‘best friend’. Phsssh. As if she’d want to make friends with anyone unless she wanted to sleep with them or use them for something, and since Alanah was a Ravenclaw, it was clearly intelligence. The girls were so bitchy together it was amusing, something that Vonna chose to conveniently ignore.
Whilst musing privately on these thoughts, she didn’t fail to recognise the slight hesitation Valentine showed whilst picking a volunteer. Looking across, she’d seen Brett volunteer, but surely since he’d already answered a question (half-answered she felt like adding), the automatic and more obvious choice would be the Ravenclaw Captain. For a second a frown flashed across her sunlit brow in momentary puzzlement. On top of that, it wasn’t as if Brett was a Ravenclaw either. If he had been and accompanied by his good looks, the minor discrimination would have been understandable. But still…
On Valentine’s beckoning, Vonna sauntered across with a sort of casual gait, her haughty features accentuating the fact that she didn’t actually come across as a teacher’s pet. Which made her all the more vindictive when Sirius managed to hiss at her. She turned her head sharply towards him, behind Valentine’s back who she happened to be following and mouthed, “Shut up” drawing a thin line across her throat with her finger to symbolise that she’d kill him when she next got her hands on him. She knew he was teasing since Sirius of all people knew exactly how much of a slacker Vonna actually was when it came to work.
Whipping her head back in the direction of where she was going, she paused slightly realising that she’d been about to walk straight into Valentine, something that normally didn’t bode well. Her Silver Arrow was grasped firmly in her hands and her walk was light. She looked as though she was gliding on the grass, ignoring the brutal glares she was receiving from the Slytherin and her tag-along.

He felt a tug on his robes and found himself being insistently pulled closer to the Sirius and James. The one doing the tugging (Sirius) asked him a question. It was a question that he didn’t really want to answer, so therefore, he answered it anyway. “I… I was dusting my broom,” He muttered darkly. Glaring at the shiny broom stick in his hands as if it had mortally offended him.
Remus felt slightly dark and gloomy as the infamous James Potter insulted the professor to his dismay. “Unfortunately not everyone has mastered the fine art of flying around the Quidditch Pitch with a stick between their legs.” He said softly. Once again looking down at the broom stick in his sweaty hands, this time with a look of apprehension. Remus glanced over at James as he pulled out a piece of parchment from his robes and started to write something. Turning away from the amused look on James’s, Remus unconsciously ran his hand through his hair and fidgeted. Becoming full of nervous energy. “Come on, lets get this over with,” He thought out loud. Watching Vonna walk forward to begin.

((I hope everyone gets the Professor Moody reference here! God I love that guy xD
Very short post, I apologize...))
"Now," she began, her eyes flickering once more over to Black and Potter. "Some of you Quidditch players will already know of the Rabanski Manouvre." She proceeded to fly a little higher, and begin to demonstrate. "It involves trying to 'double-cross' your opponent. As it needs multiple players, it will be a perfect one for you to practice. Miss Edgecombe, if you would be so kind, I would like you to try and get past me, to throw the Quaffle over my head, to try and retrieve it at the other end, and to put that away, Mr Potter, while I'm talking."
Her eyes flashed once more over the Seventh Year.
"Does it always have to be you boy? Hand it over, come on..."
Her nostrils flared impatiently - maybe this class hadn't been such a good idea after all.

Alanah diligently ignored Vonna as the seventh-year stalked past her, then almost snickered as Sirius told her she was a teacher's pet, but contained it and strained to continue to watch the teacher. However, Alanah's efforts were halted when the murmuring behind her escalated to the point where she twisted around to watch James drawing something on a piece of parchment. She squinted to see what was on it, then abruptly turned around as Valentine told off both Black and Potter. Alanah rolled her eyes to the heavens. Those two boys were more trouble than all of the rest of the school put together, and more. She was surprised they hadn't been expelled more than once. Alanah looked up as Valentine hovered in the air, telling Vonna what to do. The sixth-year remembered something from the distant past about the move the teacher was telling them, but she'd forgotten it mostly.
Alanah attempted to listen, but she could barely resist from turning around and telling James and Sirius off for being so disrespectful. Though, she reasoned, they were the most troublesome duo in the school, so it was second nature to them to be rude to a teacher. Tossing back her head so her raven-black hair caught the sunlight, Alanah clutched her broom a little tighter as she watched Valentine hover in the air, wanting desperately to get on her broom after weeks of remaining earth bound. She was sure most of the people here felt the same way, for nearly all of them were Quidditch players, though some, Alanah though, smirking, decided to get a little extra practice in during free time. Not her. Nope, not Alanah, though she definitely wanted to get on her broom again.

He could have sworn the angle would at least conceal some of the drawing from the professor, alas he was mistaken."Always me?" James tried to force an innocent twinkle within his eye, "Why Professor Valentine I hadn't the faintest idea in what you are talking about. I was merely taking notes." He grinned pushing his hand over the picture so no one could see it. Then he saw her. Alanah looking behind him, the smart Ravenclaw most likely annoyed with his behavior. He nearly sighed at the thought. How do these people keep up such a good and prestine act all year? He couldn't stand the five minute show he was about to put on.
Slyly he forced a smile upon his lips as he preparred his writing utensil promptly in his hand. "Alanah here suggested it even." In a friendly like manner he gave the ravenclaw a playful wink. "Smart girl, that one." God, he hoped this would work. Either that or he'd get a detention or the privlege to sit in the front. Either one, Potter particularly detested. "Nothing special." He reversed the parchment and began to write more as if his white lie were true.

Adrianne continued to glare at the nosy Ravenclaw. Devona always put her in a bad mood. Good thing Alanah was here, and it seemed like Devona was annoying her as well. That made Adrianne smile for a moment, but she couldn't contain her laughter as Devona almost walked straight into Professor Valentine. She let out a small giggle, but managed to clap her hand over her mouth before anything else came out.
Glancing around at the other students, she was inclined to look at Remus again. He seemed so dishevelled and distracted, and he kept sweeping his hand through his hair. He obviously didn't want to go flying today. His face was full of apprehension and nervousness, that Adri felt bad for him, which was completely unusual for her, since she hated Gryffindors (especially Potter's crew). She was soon distracted by James Potter, who seemed to be saying something about Alanah and pointing at a piece of parchment with his wand. She made a face as he started telling tales about Alanah and she almost pulled out her wand and gave him a piece of her mind. Adri looked back at Alanah and decided against it, owing to the previous warning she had been given by her about losing her temper too often. She settled with grasping the handle of her broom so hard that her knuckles turned a fair shade of white and a slight color of pink came into her cheeks. For Alanah's sake, she would keep her mouth shut, but not if Potter pushed it...

Sirius’ grin widened as his silver eyes took in Devona’s nonverbal threat. He leaned back and beckoned with both his hands as an invitation for her to try. It was their same little game. Soon enough they’d be able to put their skills head to head in the air. Soon, he’d be able to display his acrobatics to the class. He and James would show the class just how to work that quaffle. The two Gryffindor boys could have made excellent chasers, it just so happened that the open spot on the team had been beater and seeker when they had tried out. Sirius could not deny that James had been made for a seeker, though. With his glasses on, he had vision sharper than an eagle, often put into practice off of the field to spy a certain girl’s flaming red locks.
He felt more than saw Remus shift uncomfortably behind him. His silver eyes darted onto his bookish friend’s face and he patted Remus’ shoulder, “Loosen up, Moony. Even if you tank the first day, James and I can help you practice as much as you need. And I swear on my life that if you fall off your broom, I’ll catch ya!” Sirius gave Remus a warm smile.
As he let his arm fall away from his brown-haired friend’s shoulder, the shrill chastise of the professor met his ears. He chuckled at his best friend’s hurried cover up, hoping it would follow through. His eyes flicked over to Alanah and he gave her an encouraging smile, egging her on to play along with James’ alibi.

Professor Valentine spoke and Remus listened intently to what she had to say. Committing her instructions to memory. Unfortunately he had a feeling that they were easier to remember, then to perform. He grinned at Sirius, and his comment about falling off his broom. His dark mood was evaporating slightly. “Now, Padfoot… It may be that I am completely dismal at flying. But I don‘t think that I am so completely, atrociously, incompetent at it, that I would actually fall off of my broom.”
His attention became diverted from Sirius’s smiling face to the sly look that crept onto James Potter’s. James was trying to pull a fast one. Remus hoped that it would work. Unfortunately the professor seemed as if she was in a less then pleasant mood. ‘What is he doing? Notes? James? Not bloody likely,’ Remus thought to himself as he looked from James’s smiling face to Professor Valentine’s impatient stare. He also directed a glance at Alanah, to whom a lot of James’s deception seemed to lie.

"Why Professor Valentine I hadn't the faintest idea in what you are talking about. I was merely taking notes."
"Indeed." she muttered curtly. "Well, Mr Potter, what notes have you been able to take so far? I'm sure the class would love a little sum-up of the lesson."
She smiled politely at him as though waiting for him to make some kind of speech. In truth, she knew that whatever was on that piece of parchment was not Flying Class notes. But any punishment would be wasted on the boy. I mean - it was James Potter. She could ban him from his seekership for a month and he would still carry on as normal. However, she wasn't about to let him get away with this that easily.
"And is that right - Alanah? Well quickly Mr Potter - the class is waiting to continue with the rest of the lesson. I'm sure the Gryffindor Seeker wouldn't want to dawdle so long on the basics?"

Alanah snorted, shooting back at James, "Shut up, Potter," but she was grinning. She rolled her eyes at Sirius and turned back to the professor. Alanah smiled wryly to herself, but then she noticed that Adri's hand had tightened on her broom and she seemed ready to do something drastic. The Ravenclaw nudged her Slytherin friend, muttering, "It's fine, Adrianne, don't worry about it." Alanah knew her friend lost her temper often, which was not the best trait to have but she knew Adri couldn't help it. She would just have to cope. Seeing as Vonna had managed to get the Slytherin irritated already, however, Alanah wondered how long Adrianne's temper would hold. She hoped that her friend didn't get herself into trouble for her sake. Narrowing her eyes at the sight of Vonna hovering in the air above them, Alanah added, "Don't let that girl make you angry. She's not worth it."
It seemed they were both angry with Vonna this morning, which was obviously why Alanah half-hoped Adrianne would jinx the snotty Ravenclaw. Well, not right now, but later. Grinning to herself at the thought, the sixth-year was suddenly jerked out of her thoughts by her name being spoken. To her amazement, it was the professor who had said it, and quickly Alanah told her, "Maybe, Professor, but I wouldn't rely on Potter." She shot a wicked look James' way but turned back almost instantly to look attentively at Valentine as if nothing had happened to disrupt the lesson. Alanah hefted her broom in her hand, feeling more impatient than ever to get up in the air, and couldn't help envying Vonna for getting up there before her.

Remus had a secret. It was a secret hope that he held with in himself this morning. Maybe it was the fact that he didn’t want to go in the air, maybe it was because he didn’t want to be here, maybe it was just because he just felt like it. But in any case he hoped that they would keep up the talking, disruptions and non-sense until the end of class, So that he wouldn’t have to worry about the why.
He smiled slightly for the first time ever, which unknown to everyone present made it a monumental occasion, at the thought of James being a big enough disruption to actually get him out of participating. ‘Well, Mr. Potter, what notes have you been able to take so far? I'm sure the class would love a little sum-up of the lesson. And is that right - Alanah?’ Remus had the impression that Professor Valentine was growing tired of James’s antics. ‘Maybe, Professor, but I wouldn't rely on Potter.’ He heard Alanah reply to the professor inquiry.
That secret hope, ‘I am relying on Potter!’ He thought to himself with a mischievous grin.

Sirius beckoned from afar and she came accordingly (from afar too). She miraculously prevented a grin cracking through as she opened her arms to indicate her openness ‘whatever’ response to his ‘bring it on’ attitude, if possibly made funnier and sassier by a small black-girl giggle of her head. She managed to throw a smirk and look back at Valentine who had, at least, begun issuing instructions to the Ravenclaw. Throwing her leg over her broom, she straddled comfortably before kicking off and feeling the wind whip across her face gently. She gave a roguish grin as Valentine mentioned the Rabanski Manoeuvre - it was well-known but not overrated in the sporting world or as predictable as other moves (say, the Wronski Feint or the Troll Roll Technique). The Ravenclaw team often put the manoeuvre into their games, but Vonna was thinking of changing tactic since it was getting a little bit annoying every time opponent teams stuck along the other side to prevent them from carrying it out.
“Sure thing Professor” Came the husky reply as Vonna quickly Summoned the large leather ball, catching it deftly in her hands. She didn’t get very far, or rather Valentine didn’t ...because of James. Vonna could have leapt down the boy’s throat, but right now, that would involve moving. She instead, chose to swivel around in mid-air and watch the proceedings slightly behind Valentine, rolling her eyes at Sirius and avoiding contact with James since…well, he was being a prat as normal, nothing new, but her recent blow-ups with him didn’t really want to make her get involved. She couldn’t help but narrow her eyes and frown as Alanah somehow got dragged into the situation. That girl seemed bent on being particularly unpleasant this morning, but Vonna graciously gave the girl the benefit of the doubt, concluding that it was just Adrienne’s negative influence.
Suavely, Vonna leant forward onto her broom handle, her elbow propping up her chin as she lazily watched the processions. Valentine was wasting her time if she thought she was going to be able to straighten out the Head Boy and Captain (why James had been chosen for such a high position baffled her, Remus or even Brett would have been better choices). James was as twisted as a corkscrew and if he couldn’t sweet-talk his way out of the situation, he was going to make it as difficult for Valentine as possible. Even capital punishment couldn’t sort the boy out. Confiscate his broom – he’d borrow Sirius’. Confiscate his captainship – he’d still flaunt how fast his reactions were. There was no stopping that boy… Apart from ‘Lilykins’ of course. A twisted smirk appeared on the stunning brunette’s face as she realised the ultimate verbal weapon to use against him…

James smiled tucking the paper away in the back of his jean pocket. "Why professor, dawdle on the basics? I wouldn't want any such thing!" He tried to brighten his own face, pretend like he cared. Though in truth James Potter could nearly kill himself of the boredum he was already feeling. Basics? Most of the students here had no need for the 'basics'. And besides who ever referred back to these lessons when they were in the game? James never did. These classes never did anything for him, ever. Even though he'd taken it quite a few times. The moment he got onto the field, something took over him. It was a mindless thing. Adrenaline serged through him and his soul passion would take it from that point.
At Alannah's retort he nearly could have fallen down with laughter. Typical. "Why Alannah! I am astonished, what about this trust system we've been working on. Hm?" He treated the comment as a witty retort winking, almost forgetting about the professor who was pretty upset by his behavior, at least from what he could tell.
