Severus rearranged his collar. No matter how much he pulled at it, it just seemed too tight to bear. He was sweating profusely and all he wanted to do right now was run back to the Common Room.
He knew that what he was about to do, to say, could put his life in jeopardy. But what choice did he have? There was simply no-one else to talk to, and he had already risked enough with Vonna.
His footsteps' echo revebrated around the cold stone. He kept shooting worried glances behind as he walked, as if scared that Voldemort himself waiting in the shadows to punish his treachery. "Pull yourself together," he muttered. But the sound of his own voice was hardly reassuring.
Why the hell had he got himself in this mess anyway? Lucius was an idiot, he knew that only too well. So is that was Severus did now? Jump through the hoops of idiots in an attempt to fit in with the crowd?
This was heavy, heavier than anything he had ever encountered before. He didn't want to die - eternal blackness wasn't on the agenda for as long as he could put it off. But still, he would rather that than a lifetime of virtual enslavement. Worshipping at the heels of murderers.
Lost in his thoughts, he hadn't realised how far his feet had taken him. He was on the Seventh Floor already - standing in front of the Stone Gargoyles that marked the Headmistress' Office. He gulped at the air that surrounded him, and knocked very hard on that oak door. "Professor Devlin?" he called.
