As Sirius flashed his smile, Vonna melted internally, but just threw a small insignificant smile back, indifferent from how she normally smiled, as if she was treating him the same way. Who knew why her stomach suddenly started to hatch butterflies? She was quickly drawn away from Sirius by Brett talking (or rambling) about Greek Mythology. Vonna was surprised, Brett didn’t often come across as the most intelligent or studious of people but… tonight had revealed a lot about him. “You’re joking? Shut up!” she gushed excitedly, before dropping her voice so as to not disturb Sirius. Shut up! I love Greek Mythology – anything from Heracles to the Odyssey, you name it, and I love it!” Vonna did love Greek mythology, so much so that she’d been dead chuffed and very flattered when Sirius often referred to her as Athena. It was not an uncommon nick-name for the Ravenclaw, but she prided herself on being compared to the Ancient Goddess of War and Wisdom.

“It’s a shame that they don’t teach it at school… otherwise I’d sure as hell take it!” Vonna’s excitement and Sirius’ arrival had effectively ruined the placid air of reflection and calm that had once existed between the Quidditch Captains on the Tower. The wind billowed a little stronger, ruffling through their hair and knotting it, tinging her cheeks pink. She snuggled further into Brett’s jacket, feeling slightly guilty about leaving him with only a T-shirt. In a sudden stroke of brilliance she took out her wand and lighted her speciality: cold blue fire. This provided the warmth of a fire without burning anybody because the flame itself wasn’t hot. She set it down on the ground, indicating for him to sit down as she had done and warm himself. Plus this meant that they weren’t leaving Sirius out without making Brett feel unwanted. Always the diplomat, this one.

Brett nodded yo Vonna comment about taking a Mythology class if Hogwarts offered one. He had felt the cold wind blow through him, but his mind was far to distract to care much...though he may have unknowingly shivered as Vonna then lit a blue fire for them to sit around. "I love the stories for how things were created or came about, there always far more interesting than the actual reasoning," he said sitting down as Vonna had instructed. He felt awkward still talking about mythology.

Brett also still felt a little uncomfortable with Sirius presence. True he was just doing his homework quietly, but that just added to the awkwardness. He was working so Brett couldn't address him directly and yet he was still there so he couldn't just talk to Vonna as though he wasn't. He really was contemplating leaving, but he didn't want to seem rude and also he was rather enjoying the company.

Sirius turned to look back at the two. His dark silver eyes showed his interest in the topic. “Maybe they will eventually. I’m it would be successful enough for one elective in third year.” Myths and fantasy had always intrigued him more than he let on. Heaven forbid anyone see the bits of stories he had scribbled on papers while neglecting a potions essay. They were locked that the bottom of his trunk, in a black folder. Back at the home he had abandoned lay a sketchy manuscript of an incomplete story, sections omitted when he wanted to skip to the dramatic parts to write.

The boy labeled a couple more stars. He had neglected his writings more as time had gone by. In the beginning, it had been a frequent pastime, but now quidditch and the ever increasing amount of homework kept him from it. Especially after entering fifth year, it seemed that the teachers had decided that the impending O. W. L.s had merited a significant increase in the workloads of students. His writings now provided him amusement in moments of extreme boredom when other activities failed, or a reprieve from work when digging for a lost bit of reference material in his trunk.

“It’s certainly more beneficial to the imagination,” Vonna agreed, nodding with Brett. “After all, the mythology section is huge in the library and barely anybody goes there… apart from maybe a sixth of the school – it’s a shame really, the amount of people” Anybody could tell she meant girls, “-that spend their weekends craning their necks at romance and thriller and useless magazines-,” The indignation was clear in her husky voice, “-should give it a try. Mythology covers everything – I think the best part of it is how the Gods are so involved in mortals lives.” Vonna’s azure orbs were round with wonder. If there was one aspect that fascinated her was the ‘domino effect’ theory. It was less subtle than the butterfly effect, but it was a strange concept to think that ten years of war had been waged in Troy because of a golden apple thrown by Eris, goddess of discord.

Vonna had entered and crossed the obsessive stage she once had with ancient mythology. She’d read everything, every tale, ever ballad from the Ramayana to the Incas. It was one of the only reasons she knew about the library’s sectioning because she’d spent many hours tracing her fingers across dusty volumes to find specific texts suggested to her from all sorts of subjects.
“I hope they do” She emphasised but it had a distinct tone of melancholy to it. There wasn’t a good feedback system to inform Professor Devlin of any ideas she had, although she could always raise it in their next prefects’ meeting. “Brett, shall we talk to the Heads about it at the next meeting?” She cocked her head towards him, her body sitting somewhat side-on as to not leave Sirius out of the conversation (however hard he seemed to be working, she could never tell if he actually was).

“I have a useful book I used to use when I was reading in that section.” Sirius let his hand loosen around his quill, tapping the surface of his parchment carelessly. The ink drained into a small blotch near the top of the paper. He lifted his quill, then let it tap the paper again as he spoke. “It’s an encyclopedia of most of the characters and prominent places in many of the Greek and Roman myths. It doesn’t go into depth of the tales attached to them, but it was fantastic to have a reference while browsing though the thick volumes of myths.” The boy paused. “Now, I hardly open it up, but it’s still nice in case I want to remind myself of some detail that I forgot.”

Sirius’ eyes shifted back to his paper and he caught sight of the blotches near the name he had scribbled carelessly at the top. He blinked. The ink had spread in such a way to make it look like a slightly smeared paw print. ‘Now, that’s my signature!’ the boy thought with an amused smile. He dipped his quill into his ink bottle and labeled a few more stars.

"I suppose it wouldn't hurt to bring it up. I'm not sure they'll listen and even if they do they wouldn't start the class 'til next year anyway and we won't be around for it," Brett said using his rather depressing ability to find flaws in a plan. "But we might as well go for it," he said adding words of encouragement in order to cover up his doubts. He hated finding flaws in plans other people liked, but it was something he couldn't keep himself from doing somehow.

Brett turned to Sirius as he spoke and nodded along with what he said unsure of what to say in response. He caught glimpse of the smeared signature, "That kinda looks like a paw print," he said thinking out loud. Hopefully Sirius wouldn't take offense to his comment or the fact that he revealed he was looking at his paper.
